PhD student in Cell Biology

Open position for PhD student in Cell Biology. Immune cells employ multitude of mechanisms to protect organisms from infections and hostile conditions. Each immune cell type exhibits a broad range of functions, for example neutrophils. In this work, we will study mechanisms responsible for neutrophil response to pathogens with a special focus on NETosis. The work will contribute to better understanding of probably the least studied immune cells, neutrophils, and their function in human immunity.
The work will include imaging of receptors and NETs on the surface of normal and stressed neutrophils. The imaging approaches will include a panel of advanced fluorescence and super-resolution microscopy techniques, which will be complemented by flow cytometry and some basic biochemistry methods to determine the impact of pathogens and stress on neutrophil function.

Requirements:

  • Master Degree in Biology. Isolation of immune cells, recombinant DNA techniques, flow cytometry and super-resolution microscopy. Click-chemistry basics.
  • Master degree in Cell Biology. Experience with handling organic solvents and compounds. Tissue culture skills. Basic immunofluorescence knowledge. Use of ImageJ.
