Postdoctoral researcher in the field of gas-phase ion chemistry

The J. Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry offers a position in the scientific team of the Department of Gas Phase Ion Chemistry, focusing on instrumentation and development of new experimental HRMS methods. The successful candidate will be involved in all scientific activities, from experimental work to data evaluation and interpretation to publication and presentation of results.

The scope of the project is to study water geysers on Saturn's moon Enceladus and possible chemical interactions between Enceladus and Titan. Thanks to the proposed international collaboration, using the complementary expertise of the teams in Prague and Leipzig, the composition of the substances formed by the laboratory model of the Enceladus geyser will be investigated using a combination of LID-MS and CIARA experimental apparatus.

The work will be carried out on two levels, namely instrumental (development of a prototype HRMS analyzer of CIARA using a commercial orbital cell - 70%) and analytical (creation of a database of organic compounds using the constructed instrument for space applications - 30%).

The position is particularly suitable for scientists with sufficient experience in vacuum apparatus design and construction and in working with ions in the gas phase.

General Requirements:

- PhD in HRMS analysis

- Good communication skills in both written and spoken English and French

Specific Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in mass spectrometry
  • 3-D model design (AutoCad, ..)
  • simulation of ion trajectories in ion optics (Simion)
  • Extensive instrumental experience in HRMS analysis using orbitrap (not only service analysis)

Expected start date: 1.5. 2022 or by agreement

Duration of the position: until 12.2023

Application must include:

Cover letter, CV, copies of diplomas (or expected date of PhD thesis defense - max. 6 months after the start of the contract), brief summary of previous research activities, full list of publications, and at least two letters of reference to be emailed directly by the referees to the contact below.
