Postdoctoral position in the Molecular and Cluster dynamics group

Postdoctoral position is available in the Molecular and Cluster dynamics group at J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry in Prague. JHI is renowned scientific institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences providing state-of-the-art research infrastructure.

The position is for the project “Electron Attachment in Radiation Chemistry”.  Main goal of the project is to elucidate the importance of elementary electron induced reactions in radiochemistry and concurrent chemo-radiation therapy of cancer. It is interdisciplinary project involving synthetic chemistry, molecular physic and nuclear physics. The successful candidate will perform experimental studies of radiation induced damage to plasmid DNA in solution (see e.g. Reimitz RPC 141, 229, 2017) and its segments on DNA Origami templates (see e.g. Schurmann ACIE 56, 10952, 2017). The irradiation sources will range from the in lab electron guns and Co^60 gamma source through ion sources at intermediate energies at GANIL facility in France up to therapeutic proton beams at Proton Therapy Center in Prague.

The applicants should have PhD. in physical chemistry, biophysics or related discipline. Experience with DNA Origami preparation, gel electrophoresis, atomic force microscopy or mass spectrometry would be advantageous. We expect self-motivated and independent person. The experiments will be conducted in an international collaboration and the results are expected to be presented on the conferences worldwide; therefore, good communication skills in English are necessary.

The initial full time appointment is for two years, with possible extension. JHI is a holder of HR Excellence in Research award by European Commission and have a strong career development program that makes the institute an ideal place to gain research independence.

Prague is beautiful and very lively European city. JHI is situated on the campus of the Czech Academy of Sciences in very quiet and safe suburb with the direct metro line to the city center.
