Electrocatalysis on nanocrystals - a new approaches in control of reaction pathways

Abstract:
Nanocrystalline materials are perceived as new class of materials for various fields including catalysis and electrocatalysis. The lecture will outline the phenomena one encounters on the nanocrystalline electrocatalysts and techniques by which these phenomena can be rationalized. The major stress will be given to implementation of solid state chemistry techniques (diffraction, electron microscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy) and their combination with conventional electrochemical approach. The use of these techniques will be demonstrated on model electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction, oxygen evolution and chlorine evolution reactions.
