Abstract:
Separation, capture and storage of greenhouse gases like CO2 and storage of H2 are of critical importance for future sustainable development. This project proposal focuses on the synthesis, characterization and particularly application of new advanced molecular sieve based materials for adsorption and capture of CO2 and H2. Three types of advanced adsorbents will be prepared, namely ion-exchanged zeolites (zeolite X, MCM-22), micro/mesoporous composite materials, which will enable fast kinetics of the adsorption process, and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) exhibiting a particular potentional for H2 adsorption and storage. In addition, mesoporous molecular sieves, MCM-41, -48, SBA-15, -16, will be modified with aluminum oxide and surface alkylamino groups to increase the adsorption capacity for CO2. The expected results to be obtained in this project can be summarized as follows: i) preparation of new advanced porous adsorbents with high adsorption capacity to CO2 and H2; ii) understanding of temperature dependence of CO2 adsorption; iii) new MOFs materials for H2 storage; and iv) thermodynamic properties of CO2 and H2 adsorption over the optimum sorbents.
