Electron Injection into Ti(IV) Oxide Materials: Applications in Li-ion Batteries and Solar Cells

The goal of the project is to synthesize various types of electrode materials based on Ti(IV) oxides, both binary and ternary in various crystallographic modifications and mesoscopic structures. Oxidic materials will be both pure and composites with graphene or carbon nanotubes. Materials will be characterized by palette of analytical, microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. The main impact is in characterization by electrochemical, photoelectrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods. The aim of experiments consists in understanding the process of electron injection into conduction band and its transport both in depletion and accumulation regimes of semiconductor material. Phase changes during electron injection will be described and various mechanisms of electron injection will be elucidated. The obtained results will be utilized in design and demonstration of two practical devices, viz dye sensitized solar cell and Li-ion battery with optimized parameters.
