Nanocomposite systems of plasmonic/magnetic nanoparticles-graphene-aromatic molecules for enhanced Raman scattering processes

The aim of the project is to design, fabricate and test novel nanocomposite systems based on graphene, plasmonic (and/or magnetic) nanoparticles (NPs) and aromatic molecules, in which the electromagnetic mechanism (EM) of surface–enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) will be effectively coupled with the charge transfer (CT) mechanism of graphene-enhanced Raman scattering. The Raman resonances will be tuned by adjusting the energies of surface plasmon resonances in nanoparticles, the exciting light, or the Fermi level of graphene. Magnetic-field enhanced Raman scattering will be tested for the paramagnetic molecules in systems with implanted nanomagnets. By application of the varying magnetic field, the mutual interactions of the electronic states of the SERS-active components will be studied through modulation of the magneto-phonon resonances in graphene and paramagnetic molecules. The ultimate goal of the proposed research is to obtain novel nanomaterials with synergy of various mechanisms of SERS.
